We had a recent brief to create a lecture poster for anyone we wanted so naturally i choose Alan Fletcher. I wanted to keep the poster fairly conceptual and focus on representing his time spent with pentagram producing brand/company identities hence the logo type image.

After many weeks of scalpling and sticking i've finally managed to put together my hand made pieces in order to photograph and print ready for the exhibtion we've got coming up in London. There has been a few challenges and some things i would like to change such as the background but it's too late now!!

In the studio

In the studio this week playing around with a few set designs for my project on stress. I've deffinetly got an idea of what works and what doesn't now so hopefully the final product will be ready soon.

Rubbish

Based on a tutor set project i've taken it upon myself to gather a weeks worth of rubbish which i then need to catalogue and display in some manor. So with a deep breath and some rubber gloves on i decided to go down the photography studio and give it a go. The photos were ok but didn't really fit the image i ahd in my head so some more thought and experimentation is needed me thinks.

Stressed?

I've recently started a self initiated brief on stress, particularly in students. I want to make something that's the opposite to the usual lines of Times New Roman on A4 paper by creating a more visual and engaging poster/leaflet.

Here is my starting point anyway. I wanted to make a series of 3D interpretations of stress. In this case it's what we all want to do to our computers sometimes.

After being invited to live brief with Twerton Football club to document the atmosphere of the fans the game was called off thanks to sudden down poor. Oh well managed to take some photos of empty chairs.

Poetry Taxi

After lots of organizing and good old fashion elbow grease our poetry taxi team has pulled together and created a very nice 'little' display to go in bath abbey square . It was half relief and half not wanting to let go when i saw the boards being loaded into the van but it'll be good seeing them up in public.

All in all this project has taught me a lot about working as a team and more importantly about working with a client. It doesn't always go your way and there are compromises to be made but it has definitely been a bubble,. Thanks to all those involved.

Realizing that lately i've been a bit of a lay about with my blog it's time to bring it up to date with recent events.

After uni being shut because the UK can't handle snow apparently we decided to put a bit of our creative stuff into something else. It's big, it's white and his name is... actually we should probably give him a name but anyway presenting our snowman.

Poetry Taxi - Ideas

Five students including myself have recently been enlisted to create a design to dress up and promote the 'Poetry Taxi' which will be appearing in the streets of Bath in a few months time. Between us we've narrowed it down to three ideas and this is the one me and a colleague are working on. We decided upon large 3D lettering as it promotes the use of written language and immediately recognizable as a literature event. In order to make the concept more bright and beautiful we are playing with the idea of creating skins for the letters that reflect poetry.

Matt Judge lecture

Matt Judge, a former Bath Spa student and now working for SEA Design, recently gave a lecture at our university. After looking at his work I wanted to create a poster that reflected the precise and carefully considered work that he does. Inspired by the gold foil used on the new SEA book I took my design and then layered it on top of a black background to make it stand out. Pretty pleased with the overall out come but it was a pain in the arse to get right.

Provoke Change

Part of a project looking to 'provoke change' in our surroundings. Me and a friend decided to initially collaborate on the project looking to change the way people think about displaying their personal details. We came to the idea that we should literally wear our personal details on our clothes for all to see. I gave away all my bank details pin numbers and everything else a fraudster would need to start a new life whilst my colleague decided to display something very personal about his past. This is part of an on going project for me with more work to follow.

A nice mix of old train tickets i bought off of e-bay. Each of them tells a tale of a journey that isn't just limited to the UK. When placed next to each other the colours actually work together quite well. Not bad for a fiver!

Henrik Kubel

This is a rough poster design for our visiting lecturer this week, Henrik Kubel. I know the text isn't in sync with the boxes yet but i'm getting there. I was influenced by some pieces of his studio work where text is layered on top of imagery. For my poster I chose to use a black and white photo of our own lecture theatre although in hind sight a full lecture theatre might of been better!
